EtherDoge launched October 12, 2017 — the first Dog token ever deployed on Ethereum. Born on EtherDelta. Killed by the SEC. Revived by the community.
The Story
EtherDoge ($EDOGE) launched on Ethereum in October 2017 — the first Dog token ever deployed on ETH, predating SHIB by years and PEPE by half a decade. It was listed on EtherDelta, the main Ethereum token exchange before Uniswap existed.
In 2018, the SEC shut EtherDelta down by charging its founder with operating an unregistered securities exchange. The trading venue that held over 99.9% of EDOGE supply simply ceased to function. The supply remained locked. The community stayed quiet.
Almost eight years later, the community revived EDOGE — repositioning it as the original ETH dog, an artifact of early memecoin culture, and proof that the earliest chapters of Ethereum history are still readable on-chain.
On-Chain
The token contract is publicly readable on Etherscan. The deployment timestamp, holder distribution, and historical transaction record all corroborate the core narrative — EDOGE is among the earliest surviving dog-themed tokens on Ethereum.
